In the October 18, 2009 Corner Office Q&A feature of the New York Times, Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz talks about the need for immediate feedback in organizations. Bartz references her "puppy theory," which goes like this: "When the puppy pees on the carpet, you say something right then because you don't say six months later, 'Remember that day, January 12th, when you peed on the carpet?' That doesn't make any sense." Bartz advocates quick feedback and moving on to the next thing.
What was your last annual review like? Would you cast your vote with Carol to get rid of the process?
